"Timeless formations of nature
It is an instinctive process
The metal creates its own character
Distinctive, Elegant and Pure"
Working primarily with Sterling, Fine (Pure) Silver and 22ct Gold. I focus on texture, movement and form, resulting in simple, tactile, natural elegance.
I am influenced and inspired by the intuitive symbols of ancient history and the timeless formations of nature which surround me. From the tiny details of moss to the vast solitude upon the mountain summits, from huge layers of ancient rock to the patterns within a single stone.
My inspirational starting point involves preliminary sketching and photography, which results in a theme. Individual pieces tend to evolve through the making process, so that no two pieces are completely the same and each has a life of its own. I like to feel that I am not completely in charge of the end result and tend to let the metal form its own design character.
It is an instinctive process with the quality and individuality that hand crafted products should always own.
Having studied Jewellery Design at the Bristol School of Art, I set up my first workshop in 1998 with the help from the P.Y.B.T. and a little later moved northwards to the beautiful Lake District, Cumbria.
I have a lovely workshop in a converted stable at the fascinating historic Brougham Hall near Penrith. Open to the public 7 days a week it's a great place to visit for all the family. We are a creative community with other lovely studios including ceramics, painters, photography and a scrumptious cafe. Very dog friendly too! See www.broughamhall.co.uk for more info.
